PIERO DORAZIO

Piero Dorazio (Rome, June 29, 1927 - Perugia, May 17, 2005) was an Italian painter. His work was related to color field paintinglyrical abstraction and other forms of abstract art.

In 1945, together with other artists, he founded the Ariete group and then the Social Art Group. In 1950, he participated in the organisation of the gallery of the Age d’Or group in Rome and Florence, and in 1952, he became a promoter of the international foundation Origine in Rome, which published the periodical ‘Visual Arts’

A few years later he is in America where he  gets in touch with artists such as De Kooning, Rotkho, Pollock and Barney Newman. He also meets Hans Richter, a friendship that will last a lifetime:  his movies about abstract rhythms greatly influence his artistic style, far from both Informal and even Gestural Expressionism.
